style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;">Thank you for praying for us during this trip to the <country-region w:st="on"><place w:st="on">Guyana</place></country-region> mission field. We have safely returned after traveling over 4000 miles and spending 45 hours in the air (one way) in 13 days.

We experienced a mechanical problem one morning after departing from <place w:st="on"><city w:st="on">Laramie</city> <state w:st="on">Wyoming</state></place> and returned back to the airfield to check it out. Turns out the propeller governor had stopped working and wasn’t increasing the pitch on the blades to make us go faster. Kind of like being stuck in 1st gear and not able to shift into second.

The Lord blessed us with a family 60 miles away in <place w:st="on"><city w:st="on">Cheyenne</city></place> that took us in while we waited for a new part. They came and got us, gave us a place to sleep, and fed us. We played music together, sang together, had worships and fellowshipped together for 3 days. It was wonderful to have time to rest and get rejuvenated before continuing westward. We were very thankful for their loving kindness.

The next obstacle was bad weather in <state w:st="on"><place w:st="on">Oregon</place></state>, our final destination. After checking the weather report, we decided to divert to <city w:st="on">Walla Walla</city> <state w:st="on">Washington</state> for the weekend because <place w:st="on"><state w:st="on">Oregon</state></place> had 60 mile per hour winds with rain, ice and snow. Another family took us in, the brother of James, and we spent a wonderful weekend there taking off to <state w:st="on"><place w:st="on">Oregon</place></state> on Sunday with clear skies and good weather.

The Ash’s have now had their new baby, Juliana Elise, born Friday, March 26 and she’s a cutie.

Today we are finishing up a week of camp meeting here at our place and have been blessed by the Lord many times over with a better understanding of the book of Joel and end time prophecy.

I have news from <place w:st="on"><country-region w:st="on">Guyana</country-region></place> that 65 people have been baptized after an evangelistic series held by Dr. LaRose McClusky in Paruima village and 8 of those are from DIIC college there where I installed the solar energy system. When we had left the <place w:st="on"><placetype w:st="on">village</placetype> of <placename w:st="on">Shea</placename></place>, 10+ people had asked for bible study and 2 had asked to be baptized as a result of evangelistic meetings held there by James and Joy Ash.

Please continue your prayers for the people in Shea as the devil is bringing in false doctrine through other churches. They are even paying people $50 to be baptized. What a sham and an abomination. James and Joy held evangelistic meetings there before we left to provide a foundation for those people so they would not be led astray.

Gary Lewis is now flying after Kyle and team put the new engine on his airplane and work is continuing in <city w:st="on"><place w:st="on">Bethany</place></city> to build an airplane hanger so they will have a sheltered place to work.

A special thanks to our new friends in the British Virgin Islands, Jean and Phillip, Clive and Marshay, for showing us God’s love, dinner, to and from the airport and helping us get through everything smoothly during the trip in the <place w:st="on">Caribbean</place>. We pray God will bless the health ministry they have recently launched there.

I can tell you that the prayers offered by many during this trip were answered by God. He listened and acted. Everything from protection, guidance, and bringing pieces together at the right time all happened during this trip. God brought people together who needed the connection, and he also brought parts, supplies, and assistance when they were needed. It was awesome to see God work!!

The idea that prayer is not essential is one of Satan's most successful devices to ruin souls. Prayer is communion with God, the Fountain of wisdom, the Source of strength, and peace, and happiness. Jesus prayed to the Father "with strong crying and tears." Paul exhorts believers to "pray without ceasing," in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, making known their requests to God. "Pray one for another," James says. "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." Hebrews 5:7; 1 Thessalonians 5:17; James 5:16. {7T 42.3}

In God’s Service,

<span style="font-family: Arial; Feb 5th and immediately went out to <city w:st="on"><place w:st="on">Bethany</place></city> with parts to fix their inverter. It takes a while to get there because of the ride through <city w:st="on"><personname w:st="on">George</personname>town</city>, then a 45 minute boat ride over the rough channel outlet that goes to the Atlantic Ocean and another 30 minutes up the river to <city w:st="on"><place w:st="on">Bethany</place></city>.

We had the inverter running Sunday morning and I then made the trip back Monday morning for a flight out to the jungle <place w:st="on"><placetype w:st="on">village</placetype> of <placename w:st="on">Paruima</placename></place> where we installed a new solar energy system over the past 2 weeks. The batteries for the system are about 120lbs each and still need to be flown there by plane – all 8 of them. So it will take 2 or 3 flights to get them there in the airplanes we fly. Once they are installed the system will be operational.

<div class="MsoNormal" style="border-bottom: medium none; My wife had treated her with this oil when we were there last year for a migraine she was experiencing at the time. She told me the reason she needed more is because she was using it to treat other people when she goes on missionary trips.

<span style="font-family: Arial; She felt discouraged and was deciding not to even try to go. That night, she had a dream that someone was outside her window, and she asked who it was, and a voice said “I am”. It said “I will provide the boat, engine and fuel, I want you to go on the mission trip.”

<div class="MsoNormal" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; But we are not to place the responsibility of our duty upon others, and wait for them to tell us what to do. We cannot depend for counsel upon humanity. The Lord will teach us our duty just as willingly as He will teach somebody else. If we come to Him in faith, He will speak His mysteries to us personally. Our hearts will often burn within us as One draws nigh to commune with us as He did with Enoch. Those who decide to do nothing in any line that will displease God, will know, after presenting their case before Him, just what course to pursue. And they will receive not only wisdom, but strength. Power for obedience, for service, will be imparted to them, as Christ has promised. Whatever was given to Christ--the "all things" to supply the need of fallen men--was given to Him as the head and representative of humanity. And "whatsoever we ask, we receive of Him, because we keep His commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in His sight." 1 John 3:22. {DA 668.4}

I am encouraged by the blind missionary lady that her faith and trust in God is so great, she is able to reflect God’s character of unselfish care for others when she could have a very legitimate reason for staying home.

Tomorrow, we are going to replace an engine with a new one on one of the mission planes. Should have it flying by Thursday if all goes well. Keep us in your prayers please. It has been down since January 10th and there are a lot of evangelistic meetings being held right now. Ministers, bible workers and supplies need to be transported to and from these places in the jungle interior and the airplane is the only way to achieve this efficiently.

May God Bless you and guide you as you daily choose to follow Him,

<div class="MsoNormal" style="border-bottom: medium none; in November. A Cessna 182 was acquired through a partial donation and I flew back to the <country-region w:st="on">United States</country-region> on November 22nd to fly it to Kelso <state w:st="on"><place w:st="on">Washington</place></state> for a head to toe inspection. This airplane has fixed gear and has a stronger engine which is better suited for the rough and short airstrips in <country-region w:st="on"><place w:st="on">Guyana</place></country-region>.

It is with gratitude to God as I see people all over the world stepping up to the plate to work in service for the salvation of souls in any way they can. They may not be on the front lines in a foreign country but if they were not doing what they can, then the missionaries in the foreign country would be without support.

In 1 Corinthians 12 Paul describes the body of Christ as having many gifts of the Spirit. Not all have the same gift, but all work in unison with Christ. When one suffers, we all suffer …”or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.” 1 Cor 12:26. What is so incredible is seeing the body of Christ all working together without any human leader orchestrating it all. Jesus is doing it with His people – all over the world!!

The aircraft mechanics in Kelso are donating their time to correct, fix, and prevent problems with the 182. If they didn’t do that, there would be no airplane in shape to fly down to <country-region w:st="on"><place w:st="on">Guyana</place></country-region>.

In the meantime, almost every day for the past two weeks I have received boxes of food, supplies, parts, tools, books, literature, and various other things to be flown to Guyana for the missionaries to use or distribute there.

Daniel 11:32 says “…the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do [exploits].” Well let me tell you, I am seeing God’s people being strong and they are “doing” a lot to further the work of salvation.

It is truly a joy to be working for God. Matthew 11:28 says “Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

I can testify that it truly is easy and the burden light. It is because Jesus said “…the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.” John 14:10. The Father does the work of converting and saving souls. We are simply His servants.

I ask that you pray for the missionaries in Guyana – James & Joy, Gary & Toni, the Mandigo family, the Sisson family, the Kennedy family, the Wilson family, the Smith family, and other single people who are sacrificing a lot each day to serve. There are many more names dotted along the path from <state w:st="on">Oregon</state> to <country-region w:st="on"><place w:st="on">Guyana</place></country-region> who are helping the work, without pay. They need your prayers as well.

In closing, I want to wish you God’s grace and His peace from our family to yours as we come to the end of 2009. What is coming up in 2010? Stay awake. Keep watching. We are getting closer to the fulfillment of prophecies in Daniel and Revelation. Prepare your characters and your heart by keeping your eyes focused on Jesus, the Christ.

The 182 should be ready in about another week or so. I’ll then be flying it and the supplies down to <country-region w:st="on"><place w:st="on">Guyana</place></country-region>.

God’s Blessings be upon you,

Brandtley

Blessed doing His work

The Lord is good and has been blessing the work we’ve been doing. The 172 engine has been removed and found that the camshaft intake lobes were wearing badly. It was placed on David Gates airplane and flown back to the states. The Maule cylinder was replaced and magneto cleaned so now its operational, and N5150U received civil aviation authority to fly in country for 6 months. We have been getting up at 4-5am and retire around 11pm. Lots has been accomplished in very short order.

We’ve just returned from Southern Guyana where N5150U was used for its first medical missionary flight. A snakebite victim was airlifted out of the village of Shea and transported to a hospital in Letham. This was the only airplane in the region that was available and flying.

Yesterday, we helped a Christian family in Letham fix their Cessna 206 where the nose gear bolt sheared off and caused the nose gear to partially collapse. So, it was out of commission to make the flight.

Since the 206 will be down for repairs and then will go into annual, Gary said we should serve the area and become known for medical flights. This will show the people we are here to help and then they will be more open to hear the gospel.

So, Gary asked me to head back to the states hopefully on Sunday to get a 182 that is being purchased and fly it back down. The key is to get it down here right away because the rainy season is coming. The 172RG has small tires and cannot go into some of the airstrips once the rains soften the ground.

Thank you for your prayers, the Lord is answering them and has kept us safe, well, and fully fed.

We are truly blessed in doing His work.

Brandtley

Florida to Guyana

The Lord is wonderful. There is no doubt in my mind about His willingness or ability to deliver those who chose to be His servants.

In the Caribbean and Guyana it is law that no single engine airplanes can fly after sundown, or before dawn. So, we took off from Florida at 4:30am because we had headwinds and that meant a 6 hour flight to Turk Island for fuel and another 5 ½ hour flight to Beef Island (British Virgin Islands) for the first days flight.

We arrived in Turk Island and the process there was very quick, the people refueled the planes quickly and the turnaround in customs and immigration was also quick.

That was good because we landed at Beef Island about 10 minutes before sundown. Praise the Lord!

Our next step was to figure out where we would spend the night. Being in the mission field there is not much money to go around so we were thinking of spending the night under the wing of the planes. Since 911 however, security has been tightened at all major airports as well as many smaller ones so it was doubtful this could be done. But, it was worth asking.

Gary first asked if we could move the Cessna 150 tail dragger onto the grass to keep it from moving in the wind since there were no tie downs where we had to park. The airport people came over to talk with us and asked where we were from and what we were doing. We told them these were missionary airplanes and were headed to Guyana. They asked what religion we were affiliated with so we said we were Seventh-day Adventists. The man brightened up and said “I’m a Seventh-day Adventist too!!”.

As it turned out, he took us all into town and paid for the majority of our hotel. We shared our faith together prayed with he and his wife. His desire is to fly in the mission field and already has his pilot credentials. So we now have contacts at Beef Island who want to serve the Lord.

The next morning, we could not leave as early as we did from Florida because customs and immigration did not open until 7am. However, arriving early we refueled the airplanes so at least that would be done. We took off at 7:20am.

Arriving in Greneda for fuel was going to be a little more challenging since we had to refuel, go through customs and immigration, and then file a new flight plan to Guyana. Since my airplane is faster than the Cessna 150 I went ahead and started refueling. When Gary and Kyle landed we went inside to clear customs. The turnaround was good and we got back in the planes. The 150 departed first, but my clearance was delayed about 20 minutes. This was going to be close.

I had to wait for another aircraft coming into Greneda before they could release me. Finally, I was given permission to takeoff. I flew the plane at full throttle all the way to Guyana and arrived 9 minutes before sundown and the 150 arrived 3 minutes before sundown.

This is truly providential because how can you even start to predict a landing time that close to sundown after flying for 8 hours and stopping for fuel, not knowing how long it would take for customs and immigration.

My prayer during the trip was simply “Lord, I’m in your hands, and I trust you”. He did not fail to clear the path and move the hearts of those we would talk to as well as keep his angels close by to safeguard the airplanes.

God is worthy to be praised. They responded with “are you making a stop for fuel?” because they could not believe it would be non-stop. Since the winds were so favorable there was plenty of fuel when I arrived in Rawlins.

Once in Rawlins, there was a person on duty that refueled the airplane and gave me keys to a vehicle to use for free to run into town to catch a hotel. It turned out that there was a Holiday Inn right there and I was able to use accumulated points to pay for the stay essentially staying the night for free. Praise the Lord!!

The next day I took off at 6am and had even stronger tail winds. About 4 hours into the flight around Sioux City Iowa I caught up to a cloud deck and decided to fly over it. That was great until the clouds got higher and higher than I could fly without oxygen. So, I asked for an IFR clearance to go down through the clouds. No sooner had I started down through the clouds than the airplane picked up a lot of ice. This airplane is not able to fly in known icing conditions and so I was concerned to get through it quickly. The airspeed indicator stopped working and ice formed on the wings and windshield.

I broke out of the clouds at 7000 feet and with the help of pitot heat the airspeed indicator started working again. It was still too cold at that altitude to melt the ice so I asked to go down to 5000 feet.

Thank the Lord that his angels kept the airplane flying through all of that and by the time I reached Vinton Iowa the clouds were at 25,000 feet and the ice was gone.

After refueling, I flew another two hours to Berrien Springs Michigan to Andrews University.

The next day was a real learning experience where I flew with Harry Lloyd, the chief flight instructor at Andrews. He taught me how to safely and consistently fly into short airstrips. We also talked about how to conduct flights safely making sure a lot of variables are considered before attempting flights and if it does not look good to simply state we cannot go. In addition, we talked about how to keep people safely away from the propeller as well as proper loading techniques to ensure we do not overload the airplane.

On Thursday I flew from Andrews to Collegedale Tennessee, again with very good tailwinds arriving there 45 minutes better than if there were no winds.

The Lord’s timing has been so good to provide the winds in the right direction to save fuel and also protect me through the icing conditions. This is a good lesson I’ve learned over time – God delivers us through the trials, not from them. And He is faithful!!

Tomorrow, I leave Collegedale for Florida. May the Lord bless you as he is blessing me in this trip.

In His Service,

Brandtley

Brandtley is on his way to Guyana

Brandtley was finally able to take off today on his mission trip to Guyana, after passing all the tests for his IFR and experiencing quite a few set backs, there is good weather today!
We were also able make all the connections and gather the much needed supplies. We experienced God’s leading and His protection, directly answered prayer and He provided for our every need.
Guyana was beautiful and our family had an experience of a lifetime! Flying out to the small village of Paruima in two bush planes, (we had to split up family and all our luggage) landing on the bumpy grass air strip, riding in a huge dug out log boat up the Kamarang River the rest of the way to our destination, the girls kept saying “it’s like were in a movie!” and they ooh’d and ah’d about how beautiful everything was.
For the next three weeks we would be staying in a house at DIIC that James and Joy had recently moved out of. We were initiated right away to jungle life, there are lots of bugs out there! (thanks for warning me Joy) Ants had moved in and made a big nest on the kitchen counter, and there were cockroaches running everywhere at dusk. We had some interesting pets, frogs in the shower and toilets, a few lizards and a fruit bat living above the door in our house!
When we arrived in the interior the girls and I continued on to the house and Brandtley went on a few flights with our friend James to some of the surrounding villages. We got settled in with the help of some of the local village children. You should have seen them packing our heavy bags up the steep bank of the river and up the long trail to our house. It was so thoughtful of them to help! Of course there was no power out there and only a few candles in the house so we had to pretty much go to bed when the sun went down, and couldn’t get up till it got light.
Brandtley, Eden, Teagan, Kailah and I all slept in the king bed the first few nights until we could find the other mosquito nets. It was nice, we all slept well since we were ever so tired and being close together made us all feel cozy in the new place. We heard so many strange noises, especially at night, the big orange-ish howler monkeys growling and huffing, enormous acacia bugs strumming on their tummies (rum, rum, rum) among many others. We enjoyed the candle flies twinkling at dusk along the edge of the jungle, along the trails and sometimes here and there about our house at night. That was Romantic!
While we were there we lived off the land, meaning we harvested our own food from the garden and jungle. Brandtley learned how to harvest banana’s, we ate at least five different varieties while we were there. Cyan, Figgie, two really yummy others that no one knew names of, Red banana’s and our favorite Apple banana’s! I know it sounds funny but they did remind me slightly of dried apples. We had a few pears too, that’s what they call avocados! And they were just starting to come into season when we arrived. We mostly fed them to Kailah since there wasn’t as much she could eat. We didn’t have a lot of variety and ate lots and lots of Bokchoy and green onions. The fresh coconuts were so yummy!
Working in the garden was one of the most enjoyable things we did while in the jungle, it was just so beautiful a 20 minute walk uphill from our front door. There were yummy wild sweet potatoes (a little time consuming to dig for) and Eggplant (James said fried with garlic it was quite good) and He was right! I didn’t think we would like Eggplant but it was delicious!
One day the girls and I finally ate an unripe watermelon out of our desperateness for more variety. One of our favorites was a few of Rosa’s lovely cabbages with green oranges (almost like a lime with and essence of orange) squeezed over the top, a bit of oil, salt and basil and viola we had a delicious salad!
Someone I know that had already gone to Paruima encouraged me to take some food along especially since we have small children. So I brought quite a lot of dried fruit and nuts, some salt and onion powder. But I wished I had brought a bag of beans and rice! Some how we always had something to eat! God definitely provided for us just as He has promised.
We were warmly greeted by the local Amerindians who quickly became our friends. Marcella was almost totally blind, and she was our first visitor, bright and early the morning after we arrived, she stayed and visited quite awhile and joined us for family worship. We gave her a handful of cashew nuts to try while we ate our breakfast. The next week we were able to help her with a terrible headache she had, by applying essential oils for migraines to her head and giving her a light massage. And of course we prayed with her, and there is awesome power in prayer!
After that several other villagers came to us hoping for cures to their ailments and we were happy we had brought some natural remedies to give them a little something to help. I wish we knew more!
When we first arrived at Davis Indian Industrial College it was very quiet, the students were all gone on a mission trip to Arou and were attending a church dedication in Kikan. A few days later, they arrived back safely. What a happy day it was!!! It was fun to meet all the students and the Teachers. There was Maria from Austria, Byron from Canada, and Steve and Karla both from the US. By the way, the staff changes every year. Some years they may have more and some they may have less. But somehow, just in time, God provides!
There were mostly girls at the college and only a few boys. The students had to take turns preparing breakfast lunch and dinner because they don’t have a cook. Many of the students that come to DIIC are from abusive homes and many are learning of Jesus and his love (in Bible Class) for the very first time. Most leave the school with a strong & lasting relationship with Jesus. Instead of wondering what to do with their lives, they want Gods will to be done. Many desire to be Bible workers, Nurses and Teachers in their surrounding villages! God makes a huge difference in their lives!!!
The students work in the garden almost everyday; have class time, cooking and clean up times, as well as home work and washing their laundry in the river.
Two of the girls helped us with some of our laundry, it was a huge relief! Washing by hand can be a lot of work. They did a very good job, and were happy to earn some money to help pay for their tuition.
We also hiked Rain Mountain just after a bit of rain so it was super slippery and steep! We wished we would have brought a rope; it would have made the going easier because if you grabbed a hold of something it would just fall out and you would go sliding down the trail! Eden and Teagan did amazingly well with a little help from their daddy, while Kailah was strapped in her sling to her hot sweaty mommy.
Treacherous is all I can say although it was well worth the effort once you got to the top. The views were spectacular! Thanks to Steve for taking us. I slid most the way down the mountain on my bum, and my legs were so tired I could hardly walk back home. When we talk about it I still can’t believe we took our three girls up there!
We enjoyed walking to church every Sabbath morning! They only have a few Hymnals in the entire church, so they have to share them around. Brandtley was asked to give the sermon one week. He also taught the lesson study at Sabbath School and was able to lead worship at DIIC a time or two as well.
One evening walking up to the chapel with Eden on one side and Teagan on the other they walked right over a snake! Eden told daddy that there was a snake in the trail all coiled up and Daddy said he didn’t think so...to him it just looked like a pile of dog poop, after all there were a few stray dogs around. So he stepped right over it. Eden insisted that it was a snake and that she saw it move so daddy investigated more closely waving his foot over it. (he had boots on) and sure enough it was a snake! A Labaria to be exact, Brandtley had the girls watch it to see where it went and he came back to the house for the cutlass (aka a machete) and killed our second snake!
The first one was a yellow tail Labaria basking on the rocks right outside the door of the house, Teagan spotted it while playing on the steps waiting for daddy to get back from his day working in the jungle. It was getting towards dusk and that is when they come out since they are mostly nocturnal, these snakes are small and harder to see, they are one of the most poisonous snakes in South America and if your bitten it’s usually fatal. Teagan’s hand was little more than a foot away from the snake trying to point it out. It was blending in with the rock so well I was having a hard time finding it. I am so thankful that God protected her and helped her to see it so she could show me. We knelt down and praised Jesus right then and there!
It was most wonderful getting to spend time with James and Joy! They related many stories and shared testimonies of how God has answered prayers and lead in their marriage, life and missionary work. Because of their faith and sacrifice many have been blessed.
We also enjoyed getting to know Gary and Toni. They are very hard working and thoughtful and dedicated to Gods work. They live by faith, and God does supply all their needs according to His riches in Glory!
Even David and Becky Gates made time in their very busy schedule to meet with us while they were in Guyana. It was nice finally getting to meet them in person after hearing many inspiring sermons by David to get involved in mission work! He is every bit like I imagined, and Becky too, both loving, sweet down to earth.
We were amazed at the faith these missionaries have, and the sacrifices that they make and the hard work that they do. All for the kingdom!!!
There really is so much we could write about especially after being there for four weeks.
But what is the most important? There is a HUGE need for workers in Guyana! The harvest is truly great and the laborers are few; pray ye therefore the Lord, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. Luke 10:2. In the great harvest field there is abundance of work for all. Let us work for time and for eternity. Let us work with all the powers that God has bestowed upon us, and He will bless our well-directed efforts. {CT 48.2} There is a need for people who are willing to sacrifice, to live a simple life and to tell others of the wonderful love Jesus has for them. We must lay up our treasures in heaven. Are you willing? Let us know if you want to be part of this great work.
God Bless,

Carrie

"We are a missionary band"

"Love the LORD your God, and serve him with all your heart and with all your soul." Deuteronomy 11:13
Tomorrow we are leaving for Guyana South America to serve as missionaries at Davis Indian Industrial College for one month. It is a Seventh-day Adventist school located near the village of Paruima.
My friend James Ash, his wife Joy and daughter Jenna have been serving there as missionaries for several years. They invited us to check it out and see if that is where God is leading us. Wherever He leads we will follow!
Since Brandtley made the flight reservations just over a month ago, we have been busy packing and rushing here and there getting things together for our trip. 7 bags later and I think (I hope) we have everything that we will need! I guess we will see when we get there… Along with all the preparations there has been some stress, but there is greater peace knowing that we are doing the will of our Father that has sent us.
The girls are super excited! Eden and Teagan keeps singing “we are a missionary band” over and over! Kailah can tell something is going on but is not quite sure what yet.
After 16 hours of travel time just to get to Georgetown, and another 200 miles deep into the jungle in the bush plane, I know we will have an amazing experience that we will never forget!
And I am sure there will be many, many things to be thankful for when we return HOME on May 12.
We have been praying everyday that we will be a blessing and that everyone we come in contact with will see Jesus in us and most of all His LOVE.
Please pray for us and with us as we serve our Heavenly Father in Guyana!

Carrie
